I designed this website several years ago for myself. It was developed by a wonderful collaborator, who easily realized my directives using the WordPress Ultimatum theme. The cat logo was adapted from a poster by Theophile Steinlen for Le Chat Noir, a 19th century cabaret in the Parisian district of Montmartre.

I wanted a dramatic Mondrianesque grid which would open to various features and thought the cat would humanize, and break up, the geometric format a bit. Aside from its bohemian origins, it has a personal significance since I have four black rescue cats, and it looks like a wise and detached observer, much like any author would wish to be.

I chose intense, bold, primal colors: gold, red, black, and white and in the final phase added the blue square, which opens to feature new books.

Recently, I created a new, fresh, updated site that is fully responsive and SEO optimized. The design is simplified, the background color is white and the accents are gold. The texts are larger and the overall organization is improved. It is a far more functional and contemporary design, although I did keep the cat logo.
